Overwhelming response of U.S. states seeking high-speed rail funding

In an overwhelming show of support for the Administration’s high-speed rail initiative, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood today announced that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has received 77 applications from 25 states for the most recent round of High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) grant funding.

Solar-powered Super-yacht

It is a green super yacht called Soliloquy and it uses a combination of solar, wind and hybrid marine power for its propulsion over the seas. Bio-Hydrogen Airship of the future

Nowadays architects come up with imaging new designs for future flight. Belgium architect Vincent Callebaut has design such a magnificent aircraft, the Hydrogenase. Based on algal for bio-hydrogen and with inflatable photovoltaic cells and wind propellers the airship would be a real future means of transportation and could open up a whole new way of cruise trips.

Round-the-clock electricity with solar panels and lithium batteries

Solar panel installer Energieker and lithium battery supplier M2 Power introduce a system where customers are not dependent on the local grid anymore. The solution is based on an innovative configuration and is being tested at the New Energy Docks in Amsterdam. A PowerRouter connects the panels on the rooftop of the New Energy Docks with the lithium batteries (LiFePO4) and the 230V grid. This is the first of its kind in the Netherlands where the PowerRouter is being used in such a manner.

Sweden uses more Biofuel than Oil

In Sweden biomass has passed oil as the top source for energy generation. In 2009 biomass energy production reached 115 TW hours, which represents 32% of all energy consumption. At the same time, oil-based energy production topped at 112 TWh. Next to that, the use of biofuel is expected to increase, while fossil fuel use should further decline in the next couple of years.

Solar-powered plane will also fly at night

Just a few months ago the Solar Impulse, a solar-powered, single-seater plane, achieved its first successful daytime flight. However, now it has achieved a night flight as well. The solar-powered plane toke off from an airbase in Switzerland in the beginning of this month. The team said the plane needs 25 hours of clear summer weather to make such a flight successful.
