Wind energy to be the big green renewable energy for the EU

A report from the Danish Energy Association states that wind energy is set to be the big technological winner in Europe over the next 10 years. As the EU countries getting more serious of meeting the EU renewable energy targets of 20% renewable energy by the year 2020, wind energy is set to be a bigger contributor to the green energy mix than solar and hydro power combined.

Rural India could be powered by small roof-mounted wind turbines

Normally when we think of wind power, we think of large, sprawling wind farms. But in developing nations, smaller, more distributed wind projects could be a perfect fit. As you may or may not know, several thousand villages across India are not connected to the Indian National Grid. Placing one small wind turbine in areas such as these would make a lot of a difference.

The research company Solar Aero, located in New Hampshire, recently announced the patent of their bladeless wind turbine. The design is based on a patent issued to Nikola Tesla in 1913. The Fuller Wind Turbine, which the bladeless wind turbine is called, has only one rotating part, the turbine-driveshaft. The entire assembly is contained inside a housing which has several advantages compared to a blade-style turbine.

China, nation of the wind

Since the last five years, China has doubled its wind energy capacity every year. In late 2008 wind power in China accounted for 12.2 GW of electricity generated. This makes China the fourth largest producer of wind power behind the United States, Germany and Spain.
