Up to one fifth of global energy could be provided by biomass from plants without damaging food production. A new report released by UKERC suggests that. This could give some answers to the major debate which has been raging about the role biomass could play within the future energy system. While some say that biomass could play a major role in providing the world with energy, others say that it could mean an environmental disaster.
Renmatix has patented a new process to achieve physical transformation of sustainably produced plant cellulose to bio-available sugars. The process involves no hazardous chemical reactions, no chemical additives, no biological cultures in tubes tanks or ponds, and no use of destructive distillation. The principal inputs are plant cellulose, water, and heat.

More and more major companies switch to biofuels, and because of the rising demand for biofuels, we could get into trouble.
Plant material like sugars, plant oil and flower are more and more being used for biofuels. Unfortunetaly biofuels from those plant material do compete with our foodsupply. These plants would be better used to fight poverty and hunger.
