Alaska has more than 365,000 miles of rivers and 33,000 miles of coastline. This gives a lot of potential for hydro electric power.

Vattenfall wants to invest 1 billion euro in French Hydro Power

Vattenfall is willing to invest over 1 billion euro in a renewable energy project in France if the nation is going to do some concessions later this year. France is a major growth market for the company. This month Vattenfall opened a new office in the capital of France, Paris.

Hydro Power in Norway

The Norwegian hydro market is in robust health. In October of last year renewable energy company Norsk Hydro announced that it has plans to invest 141 million US dollars over the next four years to upgrade the Rjukan hydropower system in Telemark, in the southeast of Norway.

Alstom signs small hydropower contracts in Brazil

Alstom will supply two small hydropower plants in Brazil with specialised hydropower plant equipment. Alstom has signed a deal with Brookfield Renewable Power (BRP) to supply specialised plant equipment to the Pezzi and Serra dos Cavalinhos II small hydropower plants in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Hydro Activity in the last few years

According to the International Hydropower Association’s (IHA) latest available figures Europe has the highest installed capacity of hydroelectric generation in the world. The report says that the EU accounts for about 260 GW of the estimated global total of 860-950 GW of hydro generation.
