MidAmerican Energy, a large utility owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffet’s investment vehicle, is reported buying the 550 MW photovoltaic Topaz Solar Farm from First Solar. MidAmerican Energy is already one of the top utilities when it comes to wind power in the USA, but it looks like they are also seeing money in solar. The Topaz Solar Farm is located in the Carrizo Plain, northwest of California Valley, and it is expected to be fully operational by 2014.
An enormous new renewable green energy project is being planned in Morocco. The green project will combine hydropower and wind power to generate 1 GW of renewable energy. The project will double the existing hydropower capacity of the North-African nation.
Desertec is a 500 billion dollar renewable energy project planned for Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. The last time I wrote about the huge renewable energy project was about a year ago. If built, it is projected to produce 15-20% of Europe’s electricity by 2050, as well as providing the Middle East and North African (MENA) region with a good deal of its electricity.
This water dispenser uses a hybrid electrical system to power the electric heater located inside the water tank. It is a hybrid system because the system can be powered either by solar energy or just electricity from the grid. The water dispenser is designed by Facundo Elias.
This week the Billion Dollar Green Challenge has been launched. While that was only this week, already 32 universities have committed 65 million dollar to investments that finance energy efficiency upgrades. Among the universities are Harvard and Stanford.
