The marshall Islands have announced the world’s largest sanctuary for sharks. This sanctuary will cover 768,547 square miles. You can compare it with four times the landmass of California. The shark sanctuary of the marshall islands are part of a growing movement of shark sanctuaries.
More and more nations are getting aware that sharks play a crucial part in marine ecosystems. . Now, an agreement among the Federated States of Micronesia will create a record-setting shark sanctuary.

New official Chinese calculations show that the cost of pollution, deteriorating soil, desertification and disappearing wetlands increased to the equivalent of 196 billion dollar in 2008. The true figure could be even higher because of incomplete data. However, with this data, the cost of environmental damage would be 4% of Chinese GDP.

For decades, progressive economists have argued that, as a development strategy, mining is a “resource curse”. The main reason is that capital-intensive mineral exploitation creates enclaves with few positive spillovers, i.e. linkages to the local economy, and many negative social and environmental spillovers.
Starting next year, students in Kyrgyzstan’s secondary schools will learn about sustainable development and environmental issues, following a decision by Kyrgyzstan’s Academy of Education to implement a plan presented at a conference today as a key result of a project supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek. International experts working on the project recommended that such themes as the current situation in the world, new challenges and threats, and environmental security be included into national educational programmes and the State educational standards.
