DIY 330 Watt solar panels from Onyx

Onyx is demonstrating its first 330-Watt “Plug-N-Play” solar panels at their demonstration site in Orlando, Florida. The two all-in-one solar panels have an incorporated micro inverter and a standard US AC power outlet plug that allows the owner to simply plug an extension cord into the panel and then use that chord like an outlet in their home.

Italy in second place in world solar PV Rankings

Italy is brightening up if you look at the world solar PV rankings. The south-european country continues to shake things up in solar power. New stats from Gestore dei Servizi Energetici being highlighting by Wind-Works.org show that Italy is now the number two nation in the world for solar photovoltaics. Italy has passed the 7 GW mark in solar installations this year and overtaken both Spain and Japan.

IKEA installing solar arrays on their US stores

IKEA is one of the first major retailers that is looking for a greener tomorrow. The company is already building on a greener tomorrow in the UK, but now it has announced that their US stores also will go green. The Swedish furniture retailer just switched on a 30,000 square foot, 248 kW solar system on a Californian store.

In Amsterdam over 2800 solar panels are getting online in 27 different sites. According to the local government it is the largest urban solar power project in the Netherlands.

Price of solar panels to drop to $1 by 2013

The price of a solar panel is falling faster than was expected. According to a report from Ernst & Young prices of solar panels are falling so fast that by 2013 they will be half of what they cost in 2009. Ernst & Young also think that because of this development solar power will be an important energy source for the United Kingdom in the future.
